For high school juniors and seniors who are passionate about making art, Oxbow offers the nation’s only semester program that combines high-level instruction in the visual arts with academic subjects, all taught in an interdisciplinary, college-style environment.
Like the students who choose to come here, Oxbow is one of a kind—“school” the way it would be if school were run by artists, creative thinkers, and great teachers.
Our mission and purpose is to help students who love art pursue their vision, discover new ways to learn, and change their lives.
The 16-week Oxbow semester combines an intensive exploration of art and art making with innovative and rigorous academic subjects. The program is designed to fulfill high school requirements and prepare students for admission to college, university, art/design schools and other post-secondary pursuits.
Every aspect of the Oxbow experience is interwoven and complementary: art and academics; school work and community life; class assignments and personal work; studio work and field trips; new friendships and relationships with faculty members; intellectual and personal growth.
A recent Oxbow alum sums it up: “My personal growth in one semester at Oxbow was nearly equivalent to four years of my life in high school … I like to look back at Oxbow and pretend it was my secret paradise …”
