From the Golden Gate Bridge:
* Drive 18 miles (measured from the Vista Point parking lot) north on 101 and take Exit 400A to “Route 37 Napa /Vallejo.”
* Follow Route 37 for 7 miles, then take a LEFT onto Route 121, “Napa/ Sonoma.”
* Drive 6 miles and bear RIGHT at the light, continuing on Route 121 toward Napa.
* Another 8 miles and turn LEFT at the light, following Route 121, which joins Route 29, the main north-south highway in the Napa Valley (and a divided highway at this point.)
* Continue north on 29 for approximately 2.5 miles, then EXIT at “First Street/Downtown Napa.”
* Bear RIGHT at the Stop sign. The road then splits and you want to stay RIGHT. (There is a small sign that says, “Downtown Napa,” but it can be difficult to see.) Through the traffic light, cross 2nd Street and then a quick LEFT onto Third Street. (This is a little confusing and very short—less than .3 of a mile.)
* Drive about .8 mile east along Third Street through a residential/mixed commercial neighborhood till it dead ends at Coombs Street. Go LEFT at Coombs and then a quick RIGHT at the next light back onto Third Street.
* Continue on Third Street, crossing Main Street (Napa County Court House on your right), the Third Street Bridge, and Soscol Avenue on the other side of the bridge.
* Continue on Third Street about .1 mile. You will cross some railroad tracks and be in a residential neighborhood in which the contemporary architecture of the Oxbow Studio buildings and dorms will be obvious on your left. Immediately after the Studios, turn LEFT into the Oxbow parking lot (or park on either side of Third Street if the lot is full.)
* The building directly across the Oxbow lot is Scaruffi, the Oxbow dining hall. The Offices are located in the Traves House, to your right as you face Scaruffi.
From the Bay Bridge:
* Go north (toward Sacramento) on I-80. From the east side of the Bay Bridge where it merges into I-80 to the Carquenez Bridge tolls is approximately 18 miles. After the tolls, go 7 miles and take Exit 36, “American Canyon Road, Hiddenbrooke Parkway.” (You can also take an earlier exit to Route 37/Napa via Marine World Parkway, but there is construction there and it is often very congested. American Canyon is simpler and shorter.)
* Turn left at the Stop sign, cross over the freeway, and follow American Canyon Road for 2.9 miles, then turn RIGHT at the second light. This is Route 29 toward Napa.
* Go 5 miles; the road forks and you want to stay to the RIGHT, following the sign to “Downtown Napa and Lake Berryessa.”
* Route 29 will go from semi-rural to an American Graffiti-style commercial strip. From the point where the road forked to Third Street is 4 miles. Turn RIGHT on Third Street (to your left you will see the Third Street Bridge; on the right are a bicycle shop and a motorcycle shop.)
* Cross the railroad tracks and continue on Third Street about .2 mile. It is a residential neighborhood, with the contemporary architecture of the Oxbow Studio buildings and dorms obvious on your left.
* (From the Oakland Airport, find I-880 going north toward San Francisco. You will see the Port of Oakland to the left and will pass by the city of Oakland on the right. After approximately 7 miles, the freeway splits, with the left lanes going toward the Bay Bridge and San Francisco and the right lanes continuing north through Berkeley and toward Sacramento. The sign says, “I-580/I-80 San Rafael/Sacramento” and then, 3 miles later, “I-80 (North) Vallejo/Sacramento.” This is what you want. Follow I-80 north toward Sacramento, then follow the directions above.)
From Sacramento:
* South toward San Francisco on I-80 and exit at Route 12, Jameson Canyon Road SR-12.
* Follow Route 12 toward Napa/Sonoma about 6 miles, then turn RIGHT at Route 29, toward Napa.
* About 5 miles on 29 and the road forks. You want to take the RIGHT fork, marked “Downtown Napa/Lake Berryessa.”
* The road will go from semi-rural to an American Graffiti-style commercial strip and its name will change to Soscol Avenue. After 4 miles, turn RIGHT on Third Street (to your left you will see the Third Street Bridge; on the right are a bicycle shop and a motorcycle shop.)
* Cross the railroad tracks and continue on Third Street about .2 mile. It is a residential neighborhood, with the contemporary architecture of the Oxbow Studio buildings and dorms obvious on your left.
From Points North and West:
* Find your way to Route 29, the main north-south Highway through the Napa Valley.
* Exit at “1st Street/Downtown Napa.”
* Go RIGHT at the Stop sign, cross over the freeway, stay to the right. The road splits and you want to stay to the RIGHT. Go through the traffic light, cross 2nd Street and then turn LEFT on Third Street. (This is a little confusing and very short—less than .3 of a mile.)
* Drive about .8 mile east along Third Street through a residential neighborhood till it dead ends at Coombs Street. Go LEFT at Coombs and then a quick RIGHT at the next light back onto Third Street.
