Welcome to Oxbow

Every summer I am amazed at the impact a few weeks at camp can have on the life of a child. Yes, Oxbow is an “art camp” but, much more than art “happens”. In a community of like-minded, and like-hearted people, respect for self and others “happens”. Self-discovery “happens”. Increased self-confidence “happens”. The formation of life-long friends, “happens”. And... lots of fun “happens”.

While I question how it “happens”, certain things are true. Since it’s inception nine years ago as a high school semester art program, The Oxbow School has fostered a culture of creative, inquiring minds where respect, non-judgment, risk-taking, openness and honesty are highly valued. Summer staff are chosen for their commitment to these principals and trained in how to share them with others.

We also know that a lot is going on for youth at this time in their lives. At Oxbow we give them a creative outlet to explore their thoughts and discuss them with peers and mentors. We encourage them to experiment, seek out their artistic interests, and learn at their own pace while challenging them to broaden their horizons.

Add all of these together and lives “change” at Oxbow. We welcome your interest and look forward to having you join us next summer.
