A TYPICAL DAY AT OXBOW SUMMER ART CAMP

Boarding campers will be living in dorm suites that have 3 bedrooms, two baths a common area and laundry facilities. There will be anywhere between 2-4 people per room and a dorm counselor assigned to each suite.

Your dorm counselor will be your “art angel” for the camp. They are there to be your friend and advisor as well as to be sure that camp rules are followed and that you are healthy and safe and getting the most from your experience at Oxbow.

7:30 - 8: Wake up and prepare for the day. Campers are expected to make their beds and keep the rooms tidy.

8:30: Breakfast and morning announcements: Day campers will arrive at this time and join us at breakfast. This is a time to go over the plan for the day, make announcements. We’ve also been known to do poetry and literature-readings at this time for those campers so inspired.

9 - Noon: Studio time, instruction and working on projects: We’ll have instructional sessions in two different studios in the morning for the first half of the session. After campers get their projects established, they will be working in whichever studio they need to finish their work.

Noon: Lunch

12:30 - 3: Afternoon activities: These will vary daily and might include swimming, kayaking, “art angel” time, field games, dorm activities, etc.

3 - 4:00: Bunk time: This is a time when the studios are temporarily closed and camp is a bit quieter. There are no required activities but campers often use it for writing or sketching in journals, letterwriting, games, catching up on sleep, doing laundry, visiting with their bunk-mates, etc. Once a week there will be dorm and studio clean-up during bunk time.

4:00 - 5:30: Studio time, instruction and working on projects: We are back in the studios during this time either receiving instruction or working under supervision on final projects.

5:30 - 6:15: Dinner

6:15 -7:45: Camper’s choice: During this time, campers have a choice as to whether they want to return to the studio and work with the faculty and fellow students on their projects or participate in recreational games and activities such as kayaking or field games such as ultimate Frisbee, soccer, touch football, etc.

7:45 - 10: Evening activities: This varies daily and could include, movie night, camp fires, recreational games, the occasional party and accompanying activities such as mask and/or costume making, dancing, skits, visiting artists, and slide shows...to name a few.

10:00: Return to dorms: Campers return to the dorms and prepare for bed.

10:30: Lights out.
