Susan Stevenson

Former Trustee, San Francisco Friends School, San Francisco, California

Susan Stevenson worked in law firm management for many years. Most recently, she was the Firm Administrator for Bartko, Zankel, Bunzel and Miller, a 30-attorney firm in San Francisco. Additionally, she has been a member of several boards including San Francisco Friends School, The Marin School and Musical Theater Works, an after-school musical theater organization in San Francisco. Sue lives in San Francisco with her partner, Joyce Norcini. Sue and her goldendoodle, Genve, volunteer for the SPCA and visit schools and facilities in San Francisco. Sue became familiar with Oxbow when her daughter, Grace, attended in 2013. Grace says that she "came to Oxbow believing she was a doodler and left knowing she was an artist." Sue joined the Oxbow board in 2017 and currently serves on the Finance Committee. She looks forward to becoming more involved in the Oxbow world.

Oxbow was, without a doubt, the best part of my high school experience. A year after leaving, and I still feel as though it were yesterday that I was sitting on the lawn, eating in the dining hall, and laughing with my friends in the studios.

At Oxbow, I got to try inquiry-based learning for the first time. This allowed me to control the amount of rigor and the depth of research in my topic, as well as picking a topic that I found most interesting. From going through this new process of learning, I feel excited to go back to the rigor of my sending school to apply the inquiry-based perspective to my classes.
